The Gold Coast University Hospital had structural cracking around a column as a result of a movement joint locking up. This crack extended through the full depth of the slab. The inadequate existing movement joint had to be rectified, the concrete repaired and fire rated sealant installed. The repair works were carried out in an operational hospital ward and in a plantroom below, so workplace encapsulation was critical. The works were completed ahead of schedule with minimal disruption to staff and patients.
