Abbottford Apartments – Brick Balustrade Strengthening and Repair

The Abbottford Apartment block had severely weakened brick balustrades which were at risk of catastrophic collapse. It was determined that extensive strengthening was required, and through collaboration with the consulting engineer and a specialist brick tie supplier, a solution was found and an installation methodology determined. This included brick helical-ties, mortar strengthening bars and new steel posts. Access was from suspended scaffold which was progressively moved around the building. All works were completed while the units were occupied with zero defects or lost time injuries.
